The elevation of the Egan Range crest in this location is approximately 10,3000 feet. The western side typically gets hammered by the prevailing winds. We have had many days of strong south west winds this season, during and immediately following the significant snowfalls in December. This slope has enough of a north west aspect to collect the snow deposited by these winds. This coupled with the likely wind scoured snow surface layer from the November storms provided prime conditions for this natural slide when the January warming trend occurred.
